What to know 〰️

·       Gather at the corner of Montrose and Westheimer.

·       We will walk peacefully down the sidewalks on both sides of Montrose from Westheimer to Allen Parkway.  You can stop whenever you want.  If walking is not something for you, then just pick a spot anywhere along the sidewalks of Montrose Blvd and wave your sign to the cars passing by.

·       Please bring a small trash bag and plan to pick up a few pieces of trash along the way so that we leave Montrose Blvd cleaner than we found it.

·       DO NOT BLOCK TRAFFIC ON STREET OR SIDEWALKS!  DO NOT TRESSPASS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY! Please note that this is not a parade as defined by the City of Houston. It will be a procession of pedestrians walking on public sidewalks, exercising our first amendment rights by holding signs to be seen by passing cars.

·       Some signs are being printed to be distributed that day or make and bring your own.  Get creative!  Suggested messages:

“Save the Montrose Live Oaks”

“Montrose TIRZ: We Demand a Revised Plan”

“We Need More Shade not More Pavement”

“Old Growth Oaks can NOT be Replaced”

·       Local media may cover the protest.  Please be good representatives for the trees and the Montrose community.  No anger, no rudeness.  Be like a tree and do only good things for the world during this protest.

·       When the protest is over, consider having a meal or a drink at one of the many establishments on Montrose Blvd. Make sure the owners there know how you feel about the trees and the TIRZ plan to develop Montrose Blvd.

·       Educate yourself and others about the TIRZ plan using facts and critical thinking!  Read the Learn More section of this website or do your own research.

·       Be sure to sign up to be on our mailing list so we can let you know about future town halls, protests or other developments
